Kimono Dragon:
Original is 22" x 30" (approximately 727mm x 606mm),
Acrylic on Arches 300 lb hot press watercolor paper.
I'm not sure what inspired this. I was working on dragons at time, which have a prominent place in
both Japanese and Chinese folklore. I did numerous sketches of women with draon tattoos, but somehow
felt the results were trite, and the idea had been overworked in art already.
I was looking for sexy, but not sex. I wanted something that was provocative and powerful and yet
rounded, without the sci-fi, dungeons and dragons sort of look that normally accompanies this kind
of theme. The result here is what I came up with, and I named it Kimono Dragon, which is meant
to remind the viewer phonetically of the "komodo dragon".
