Title: Geisha Painting, Acrylic
Size: Original is 22" x 30" (approximately 727mm x 606mm)
© 2007, Scott Moore
Geisha Painting was inspired by a collection of pre WWII block prints in Japan.
While this isn't really a geisha, I thought the title was catchy. In fact, it's just a Japanese woman
in a fine kimono. The title is a play on words, since it's a painting of a geisha painting. Sort of.
This piece was done using primarily cool colors, but has a slight warmth to it due to a few reds and yellows
thrown in. The inscription on the piece of paper that she is painting reads "tsunami". There was an earthquake
where I was living in Japan the day I was finishing the piece, and a strong tsunami warning that resulted in
the death of two fishermen in the area. This inspired me to write "tsunami" and paint a little Hakusai style
wave under it.
