Maiko Maiko Maiko, 30" x 22", Watercolor on 300lb Arches Hot Press. These women are "Maiko", or Geisha in training. This is a very familiar scene in the historical city of Kyoto, Japan, where geisha and maiko are still very common place. I think this scene captures the every day feel of Kyoto, the smiles, the colors and atmosphere. I chose a more abstract background as I want the viewer to focus on the feeling conveyed in the painting, rather than all the details of a cluttered adn busy street scene.
